چکیده

We followed fragmentation of magnetized lamentary clouds and formation of disks with two-dimensional numerical simulations. A lamentary cloud with longitudinal magnetic elds fragments to form geometrically thin disks perpendicular to the magnetic eld. Each disk collapses self-similarly toward the lament axis, keeping quasi-static equilibrium in the direction parallel to the axis. With some simpli cations we obtained an approximate similarity solution for a dynamicallycollapsing disk threaded by the magnetic eld.

Gravitational Collapse of Isothermal Magnetized Clouds: Universality of Self-similar Collapse

We study dynamical collapse of isothermal magnetized clouds with two-dimensional axisymmetric numerical simulations. As a model of the cloud, we consider an innnitely long lamentary cloud with longitudinal magnetic eld. An initial model is constructed by adding an axisymmetric perturbation on an equilibrium model. Because of gravitational instability, it fragments into magnetically supercritica...

Star Formation in Cold, Spherical, Magnetized Molecular Clouds

We present an idealized, spherical model of the evolution of a magnetized molecular cloud due to ambipolar diffusion. This model allows us to follow the quasi-static evolution of the cloud’s core prior to collapse and the subsequent evolution of the remaining envelope. By neglecting the thermal pressure gradients in comparison with magnetic stresses and by assuming that the ion velocity is smal...

A Coupled Dynamical and Chemical Model of Starless Cores of Magnetized Molecular Clouds: I. Formulation and Initial Results

We develop a detailed chemical model for the starless cores of strongly magnetized molecular clouds, with the ambipolar diffusion-driven dynamic evolution of the clouds coupled to the chemistry through ion abundances. We concentrate on two representative model clouds in this initial study, one with magnetic fields and the other without. The model predictions on the peak values and spatial distr...

Self-Gravitating Magnetically-Supported Protostellar Disks and the Formation of Substellar Companions

Isolated low-mass stars are formed, in the standard picture, from the collapse of dense cores condensed out of strongly magnetized molecular clouds. The dynamically collapsing inflow traps nearly half of the critical magnetic flux needed for the core support and deposits it in a small region surrounding the protostar. It has been argued previously that the deposited flux can slow down the inflo...

Observations and Theory of Dynamical Triggers for Star Formation

Star formation triggering mechanisms are reviewed, including the direct compression of clouds and globules, the compression and collapse of molecular clouds at the edges of HII regions and supernovae, the expansion and collapse of giant rings and shells in galaxy disks, and the collision and collapse between two clouds. Collapse criteria are given. A comprehensive tabulation of regions where th...
